commissioning

The four stage process of commissioning bespoke furniture

consultation

The first stage of the process is a consultation in which you give me a run down of what you are looking for. Whether you know exactly what you want, or just have a rough idea, I can work with you to develop a functional and aesthetic concept.

The aim of this meeting is to come away with a precise brief of style, function, dimensions, material choice and budget.

Design

In this stage I go away and turn our brief into detailed plans and computer models of the piece. The software I use lets me produce realistic renders of the models as well as planning out the construction. This enables you to get an accurate idea of what the final item will look like.

Approval

This is your chance to look at the designs and renders and make any tweaks you want.

Once we have agreed on the final concept and a price, I normally ask for a 50% deposit before any making begins.

Construction

Now the fun part starts!

Using the highest quality materials and careful precise craftsmanship I will start work on your piece. Wherever possible I use native, sustainably sourced timber and the highest quality hardware.

Once I have started construction your commission will normally be ready in 3 to 6 weeks, but that can change depending on size and complexity.
